Reductions in force are never easy, and in this economy your company risks jeopardizing its reputation in the community by letting people go who have been loyal employees for a number of years.

You don't need the "big-guys," they're really not a fit for your corporate culture and the needs of your workforce.

What you are looking for is a customizable, affordable solution that won't restrict you--and your people--into a cookie-cutter solution.

As a career coach for 4 years, I've worked with people across many different industries, and in every case I meet them where they are in their search. Here's how a typical program works:

  • First Meeting: Talk about what they did in their last position. What they liked, what they didn't enjoy. What are their strengths? Develop the material to include on their resume and cover letter by looking at job descriptions they are interested in. Discuss how to present their layoff to friends and family in a positive light that will help them get job leads. The basics of beginning to search online for positions.
  • Second Meeting: Show them additional job search tools and build an online profile on LinkedIn.com If appropriate--we'll discuss searching for jobs on Facebook and Twitter as well. Develop strategies to network and meet people who could help.
  • Third Meeting:
  • Profile your audience.
  • Define your goal.
  • Specifically target their needs and concerns.
  • Determine how best to position yourself and your product to meet your customer's needs.
  • Polish your natural presentation style to make you confident, poised and interesting to an audience.
  • Enhance your marketing communications so your audiences respond to your offer.
  • Design and write your PowerPoint presentation and handouts.

How does improv comedy fit in?

It's the perfect hands-on exercise for teambuilding exercises and actually demonstrating ways that people can think out of the box.

Also, it's been the #1 tool that has improved me as a speaker. I can handle ANYTHING an audience throws at me because I know how to "find the funny" and turn a comment around to keep the presentation flowing.

Everyone says that they're "just not that funny" but it NEVER fails--they get in front of a roomful of people and they're HILARIOUS!

Improv encourages people to work as a team because every scene has at least 2 people in it. If you're not listening to your stage partner--and reacting to what they're presenting you--the scene will go nowhere.

Improv also teaches people to accept whatever they're given in a scene. Saying "no" immediately stops a scene--as in real life, it can stop an important dialogue between bosses and employees, salespeople and prospects or 2 colleagues. Learning to accept another person's suggestion (no matter what it is), and then build on it, is a vital skill in today's workplace.

I can help them prepare and give them the confidence that customers WANT them there and WANT to talk to them.

Every successful presentation comes down to two things:

  • How you want the audience to react.
  • How you are going to communicate that to them.
