Jobseeking On A Budget?

New to Career Coaching?

“Melanie helped to write an awesome resume after having been out of the job search market for more than 20 years. She also critiqued my essay for entrance into the Master's program I am currently taking. I would definitely recommend her for consultation in these areas. She is a great career coach.”     Cathleen Jensen

When you're looking for a new job, it's hard to know who has the answers, and if working with a coach is really a worthwhile investment.

But think of it this way:
  • I work with hundreds of clients each month and keep tabs on their search progress.  I have a feel for what's going on in the overall marketplace and some insight to strategies that are working.
  • I keep in touch with my clients and ask them to update me on their progress.  You're not left high and dry once we're done working together.  My business grows through referrals, so it's in my best interest to provide as much support to you as possible.
  • How much income have you lost by being out of work versus my fee?  If I can shorten your search by a month or two, isn't it worth the investment?  (Especially if you know I'll look forward to updates on your progress.)

  2. Twitter -- it's called micro-blogging because posts cannot exceed 140 characters, so think of it like texting or instant messaging a group of people who "follow" you.  Large news organizations like the Wall Street Journal and CNN are on it, as are a number of recruiters who do post jobs there as well. See who I follow, sign up to receive their posts and learn what you can from many different perspectivesMy handle is @Red_Inc.
Here's the "Coaching on a Budget" Options:

Resume Critique                                                                                                $75
Perfect for the do-it-yourselfer. I'll give you my honest assessment of what your resume says to me as a former hiring manager, and suggest changes you can make on your own.  Includes one written and verbal assessment, not to exceed one hour. If you later decide to have me re-write your resume, I'll credit the cost of the critique.

Coach-On-Call                                                                                               $75/hr.
Looking for a job is a lonely occupation.  Your friends and family can only hear so much about your search, and while they're well intentioned, they are not a coach.  This program is perfect for those of you who need a career coach to give you tips on what you should be doing differently in your job search, motivate you and hold you accountable each week.  For one hourly rate, we'll schedule weekly or bi-weekly check-in appointments of 15 or 30 minutes to formulate your job search strategy.  Email coaching (15 min. value per email) is available too.

Teleseminars                                                                                     $40 for 2 hours.
You call in from the comfort of your couch.
I'll go over everything from Resumes, Business Cards, Networking, Job Search Strategies and Job Interviewing.  If your computer can do a video conference then you'll see me too.  You'll be emailed a passcode for the specific time you choose.

Audio Recording  (MP3 on CD)                                     $35 for 80 min. + Shipping

What the HECK is Twitter?

It's a form of micro-blogging--meaning that you only have 140 characters to make your point.  Postings are called Tweets, and it kind of works like instant-messaging.  I follow the Wall Street Journal and have seen Twitter discussed on CNN--so it is becoming more mainstream.  I also follow several recruiters and job boards--some of whom do post job openings.

You can monitor the tweets through TwitterFox (for Firefox), Twirl (for your desktop), Twitterberry (for Blackberries), or by logging into Twitter.  See who I follow and search for others.
